About the Book

godsneno1 mock up.jpg

Perhaps you have often wondered why you get up for work, school, or other things that call for your attention daily; asking if it will ever amount to anything. Well, you are not alone. No matter how successful we are and no matter the season we are in; these feelings are something that we will all experience at some point in our lives. Those dreadful thoughts when getting up and restarting your day are often prompted by the desire to understand what this thing called “life” means and why you have it. We seek to comprehend the meaning behind our choices, our past, and why things happened the way they did or the meaning of what lies ahead in our future. When it comes to considering the meaning of life, or what I like to call “purpose,” I have often heard the phrases, “everything happens for a reason” or “you are not here by accident.” Yet, where is that exactly?

This book is designed to provide you with the framework needed to dive into some of these issues. It’s written to invite you on a journey with successful leaders that I have interviewed from various areas who understand what they are called to do as they share promising practices. These leaders range from a Holocaust survivor, news anchor, domestic engineer, a student, and a corporate CEO of a million-dollar company. In addition, it examines the connection between purpose and leading effectively as you will read about my first-hand experiences and lessons learned from leading an assortment of teams over eighteen years. My goal is to help you understand your reason for being (i.e., your purpose) to aid you on your quest for wisdom as you develop career aspirations, make life choices, and pursue new endeavors.

Chosen: A Call to Leading with Purpose was written to bring clarity to your where and your what. This book challenges you to think about your future and leaving a legacy of purpose as you lead others. In the end, it will help you to become a more effective leader and challenge you to think more concisely about your life’s direction. This, in essence, is my gift to you!

The Book’s Impact

While reading Chosen, Everett discusses the importance of finding and leading with purpose. My favorite part of the book explains the power of positive thinking and how this can change the course of your life. I have experienced this power and have come to realize the importance of having a growth mindset. You have a purpose, and this book calls you to take action on that!
— Ray Laureano, Discover Financial
Everett confirms that chosen leaders are distinguishable by impeccable character and are worthy of being followed. They are called to a purpose, regardless of circumstances, and learn the competencies necessary to accomplish a mission, no matter where they are in life!
— Santiago Valentin, Corporate Chaplains of America
The Chosen book was great for me. I have been a leader at the company I own and this has helped me better understand my purpose and has given me tools to lead my company more effectively. I plan to immediately implement a number of the things I learned. Sections of the book including: what would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail?, expressing my thankfulness more often and effectively, and helping others understand that they are chosen to lead with purpose” were great reads.
— Ed Meek, Edge Portfolio Management
This book has enabled me to take more chances in life. It’s called me to move forward and live everyday with my purpose in mind. The section that discusses what happens when you and your purpose finally meet taught me to live out my passion and resist the fears that have prevented me from living my life to the fullest.
— Ana Luisa Herreros Ayres, University College Cork, Ireland
The greatest strength of this book is Everett’s honesty and vulnerability: his willingness to share the moments from his life that helped him to discern his own purpose. What’s more, as any good teacher does, Everett connects a particular example — in this case, the events of his
own life — with the greater theoretical concepts that can apply to anyone and everyone. His story shows the reader WHY they should want to discern their own purpose, but what he has to teach about the principles and strategies of discerning, developing, and defending purpose answer the even more important question a motivated reader will have: HOW to do so.
— Julie Westerman, North Park University
This book allowed me to understand that risk-taking is important. Fears will come, but they should never paralyze you. Sitting on the sidelines and not being active in pursuit of purpose is not an option.
